Husson Hosts "5K Run For the Children"
BANGOR, ME – Runners young and old alike all came out to run at the First Annual Husson Run for the Children 5K. It was a rainy morning, but that did not discourage any of the runners who came to compete. In conjunction with the Maine Infantry Association, all proceeds from the event will go to help establish a College Scholarship fund for Maine Children of Fallen Soldiers. Husson's Angela Stauble claimed her fifth win of the season as the top female finisher with a time of 20:08. For the men, Husson's assistant cross country coach, Brendan Dagan, topped the field with a 16:23 result.
Jim Karcanes, Husson's head cross country coach and 5k organizer reflected on the event, saying, "I'm very pleased with the turn-out for today's first Annual Husson Run for the Children. We had 60 runners and 31 walkers take part in the event that collectively helped raise funds to help establish a Scholarship fund for Maine Children of Fallen Soldiers."
The event also had a 1-mile "Fun Run" in which all those who finished received a ribbon for their efforts.
"Despite the wet conditions, the running feld highlighted the talents of our Cross Country Team, the local Sub5 Track Club and students and faculty at Husson. Our "star" athlete, Angela Stauble, added a fifth win for the season by taking the first overall Women's title with a great time of 20:08."
Karcanes expressed his thoughts regarding his team's efforts, saying, "the entire team performed sensationally with Theresa Martin (21:37) and Molly Frankinburger (24:43 capturing age-group victories. Our Assistant Cross Country coach, Brendan Dagan, captured the men's title in a brisk 16:13. In all, I'm very pleased with how the event turned out and the way in which a community comes together to support a worthy cause."
