Eagles Beat Mount Saint Mary 1-0

Bangor, Maine - Husson University managed just one goal but it proved to be enough to beat Mount Saint Mary 1-0 at John Boucher Field. Sophomore Alexandra Laniewski (Scarborough, ME) scored the game's only goal for the Eagles. The Eagles dominated play outshooting Blue Knights 22-4.
After a scoreless first half, Laniewski found some open space as she raced past the defense down the right side and fired a shot past goalie Casey Roland (Fy., Bethpage, NY). She took a pass from Shelby Bradford (Sr., Lee, ME) just over midfield and beat the defense to the box.
Roland was terrific in goal, as she replaced starter Megan Cotta (Jr., Wall, NJ) after Cotta crashed into the goal post making a save. Roland recorded 8 saves over 55 minutes of play. She kept the game 1-0 with less than two minutes to play making back to back saves on point blank shots in front of the net from Megan Clement (Jr., Brunswick, ME).
Husson moves to 2-1 on the season while Mount Saint Mary is now 0-2.
In the first game - Keene State University defeated Western New England College 1-0. Senior Katie Bradford (West Lebanon, NH) scored the only goal of the game.
Keene State made a first half goal holdup when Bradford scored her 3rd goal of the season. Senior Jaclyn Grant (Newington, CT) set Bradford up with a pass 20 yards in front of the net. Goalie Meghan Dempsey (So., Weymouth, MA) kept it a 1-0 game with a diving save on a shot by Alexis Bshara (Fr., West Springfield, MA) with just under 5 minutes to go in the half.
Dempsey recorded 5 saves for Keene State while Jessica Covino (Jr., Huntington Valley, PA) kept WNEC in the game with 10 saves for WNEC. The Owls are now 2-0 while WNEC is 0-1.
The Husson Classic will conclude tomorrow (September 6) as Mount Saint Mary will face WNEC at 10:00 am and Husson will play Keene State at 12:15 pm.
