Eagle Fly By Lyndon State 3-0

Husson University Women's soccer kicked off homecoming weekend with a 3-0 win against Lyndon State.  With the win, Husson improves to 11-4 (4-1 conf) and Lyndon State falls to 7-7 (1-4 conf).   In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Husson and Lyndon State wore pink throughout the game.

Alex Laniewski (So., Scarborough, ME) scored the game's first goal with 30:49 on the clock.  Laniewski ran onto a loose ball, took a touch at the top of the 18 yard box, and ripped an upper-left shelf shot for the goal.  The game's second goal came six minutes later and featured an arching pass from Katelyn Cloutier (So., Groventon, NH) to Shelby Bradford (Sr., Lee, ME) who settled the ball out of the air and fired into the back of the Hornet's net.

A key defensive play made by Lyndon State prevented a late first half Husson goal.  With 52 second left in the first half, Bradford lofted a corner to Amy Sanz (Sr., Tyngsboro, MA).  Sanz headed what appeared to be an Eagle goal but a Lyndon state defender jumped up and headed the ball out of the goal mouth.  The Eagles fired 24 shots to Lyndon State's one in the first half.

Amanda Gifford scored the final Eagle goal on the day at the 74:14 minute mark.  Shelby Bradford took a low shot forcing Hornets keeper Samantha Smith (So, North Haverhill, NH) to make a diving save, deflecting the ball in front of the goal.  Husson's Gifford collected the rebound and scored at close range.

With just 2:06 left in the game, Hornets defender, Michelle Wilcox (So., Franklin, VT), kicked a Megan LaJoie (Jr., Van Buren, ME) shot out of the Hornets goal.

On the day, Husson tallied 50 shots on goal to Lyndon State's 2.  Lyndon state goalkeepers Natalia Shams (Jr., Swampscott, MA) recorded 8  saves in the first half while Samantha Smith tallied 14 saves in the second half.

Husson returns to action tomorrow, October 18, with a home conference game against Johnson State.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 at Boucher Field.  Lyndon State plays tomorrow against Maine Maritime at 12:00.
