Eagles in the Community

For Women's Soccer, the month of October has been one of classes, practices, games and service to the community. The Eagles hosted the Special Olympics of Maine Soccer Tournament on October 14 and wore pink to raise awareness for breast cancer this past homecoming weekend. For Head Coach Keith Bosley, the Eagles' service activities provide a "way to link the sport we love with social responsibility" and exemplify the mission of Husson Athletics.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Husson's Women's Soccer made pink warm-up shirts and donned pink game socks on October 17-18. The team wrote the word "strength" across the back of their shirts. In addition to earning two wins against Johnson State and Lyndon State, the Eagles raised funds to be donated to breast cancer research. The visiting Lyndon State Hornets showed solidarity with the cause by wearing pink wristbands during the game.
On October 14, the Eagles hosted the Special Olympics of Maine Soccer Tournament at Boucher Field. Husson's student-athletes and coaches spent the day volunteering and assisting with the 150 participating athletes. Women's Soccer players refereed games, assisted with a skills competition, provided organizational support, and handed out awards throughout the tournament.
Of his team's philosophy toward community service, Coach Bosley explained, "We embrace the idea that athletics is a part of the educational process and service to the community is an important part of what we teach and learn through athletics."
