Women’s Lacrosse Falls in Close Game with New England College
Bangor, ME - Husson women's lacrosse fell to North Atlantic Conference opponent New England College by a final score 16-14 on Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
The Pilgrims opened up the afternoon scoring three unanswered goals to put themselves up 3-0. Husson responded when Alissa Fallon (Kennebunk, ME) and Abi Staab (Berlin, VT) found the back of the next on back-to-back free position shots for the Eagles, and Fallon connected with Caitlyn Stauffer (Brookfield, CT) who picked up her first goal of the game at 14:41 to tie the game at 3-3.
NEC scored five goals in a row to jump ahead 8-3 with less than six minutes left in the first half. Mariah Carrier (Lewiston, ME) scored on a cross from Stauffer, and then Stauffer snagged her own free position goal to close the gap to 8-5. The Pilgrims would strike once more in the first 30 minutes of play to head into the half leading 9-5.
The Eagles came out quickly scoring 2 goals within the first minute of the second half making it 9-7. The two teams would exchange pairs of goals, before Husson scored 3 goals in a row to close the NEC lead to 13-12 with 11:26 minutes remaining.
Gabriella Bigos sank a free position shot to stretch the lead to 14-12 for the Pilgrims, but Husson answered back on Stabb and Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT) unassisted goals to tie the game up with just under 8 minutes remaining.
Husson was unable to create the offense to grab the lead and the Pilgrims answered with 2 Jacquelyn Lane goals to clinch the victory 16-14.
The Eagles fall to 1-7 (NAC 1-2) on the season while the Pilgrims improve to 5-8 and a perfect 4-0 in NAC play.
Stauffer ended the game with 3 goals and 2 assists, while teammate Staab grabbed an impressive 4 goals on the afternoon. For the Pilgrims, Lane had 5 goals and 1 assist while Elizabeth Bois picked up 4 goals.
Mackenzie Meegan picked up the win in net for NEC, stopping 14 shots. Husson's Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, RI) had 12 saves in the loss.
Husson will host Green Mountain College tomorrow at 1:00PM. Husson's four seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
