Huntington, Stauffer, and Gerhardy Propel Eagles Past Cadets

Bangor, ME – Husson women's lacrosse edged out Norwich 11-10 on Thursday evening at Boucher Field.

Haley Huntington (West Gardiner, ME) scored first to put the Eagles on top 1-0, in what proved to be a very back and forth game Grace Fitzpatrick tied it up (assist coming from Gina Conroy), and then added another (assist from Chandler Camlin) to make it 2-1 Cadets.

Caitlyn Stauffer took one to the net to tie it up at 2 all. Fitzpatrick countered on a free position shot to edge the Cadets up for a moment until Amanda Mora (Stratford, CT) connected with Huntington who shot one in for a goal tying it up at 3-3.

Larissa Gokey snuck in another free position shot past Husson's goalie Chelsea Kondratowicz (Kingston, NY) putting Norwich up, until Huntington again scored off an Emily Child (Mexico, ME) pass to tie it up yet again at 4-4.

Fitzpatrick edged the Cadets ahead with a little less than 8 minutes remaining in the first half scoring unassisted, followed by Hope Royce who also netted an unassisted goal putting Norwich up 6-4. Abi Staab (Berlin, VT), Huntington, and Charlotte Gerhardy (Denver, CO) added the next three goals for the Eagles ending the first half with Husson up 7-6.

The second half did not lack in scoring either, Fitzpatrick used her speed to throw another one in to tie it up at 7-7. Huntington added another goal for Husson on a Staffer pass, putting the Eagles up 8-7.

The Cadets responded with 3 goals coming from Gokey, Emma Smith, and Fitzpatrick putting Norwich up 10-8 with under 9 minutes to play.

Gerhardy scored on a pass from Anna Wolterbeek (Wells, ME), closing the lead to 10-9. Huntington tied it up with under 5:30 left in the game, and Stauffer sealed the deal with a little over 2 minutes remaining, putting the Eagles up 11-10 for good.

Hungtington had a game high 6 goals on the night on just 8 shots, Gerhardy and Stauffer both had 2 goals, Stauffer added 2 assists. Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, VT) lead the team with 6 ground balls, Kayleigh Piccirillo (Walpole, NH) and Child had 5 ground balls.

Husson led ground balls, and were successful on all 14 clear attempts.

Fitzpatrick was the game high scorer for the Cadets, also notching 6 goals.

Kondratowicz got the win in goal for the Eagles with 3 saves. The Cadets saw split duty first from Cheyenne Mata-Notel who stopped 4 of 11 shots, and Rebecca Horgan who came in to start the second half stopping 8 of the 12 shots she faced.

The Eagles improve to 1-1 overall, and will host University of Southern Maine on Tuesday, March 19th at 5:00 PM.
