Husson Clinches Second Straight NAC Regular Season Title

Bangor, ME -   Husson University swept Lyndon State College on Saturday afternoon, clinching their second straight NAC Regular Season Title.  Husson won the first game 5-3 and the second game 3-2.  Husson improves to 20-13 overall and 13-1 in NAC play.  Lyndon State falls to 7-15 on the season and 5-7 in the NAC.

In the first game, the Eagles took a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the second on a two run RBI double to left field by Rachel Voicechovski (Fy. Jefferson, NJ).  In the bottom of the fifth with the score still 2-0, the Eagles rallied for two more runs.  Cassie Berry (Jr. Newcastle, ME) led off the inning with a walk.  Nicky Sargent (So. Sullivan, ME) and Megan Richard (So. Wilton, ME) both singled to load the bases with no outs.  Berry and Sargent would both end up scoring on wild pitches.  However, the Hornets would limit the damage, retiring the next three batters in a row.

In the bottom of the sixth Megan Bradstreet (So. Warren, ME) hit a one out single.  Berry then stepped to the plate and crushed a RBI double to dead center that hit the fence.  The hornets once again limited the damage as they retired the next two batters, stranding Berry at third.

In the top of the seventh the Hornets started off the inning with three singles to load the bases.  Meghan Eisenhardt (Sr. Hyde Park, VT) then hit a RBI single to left field.  After a fielder's choice, Jessica Shuffelt (Fy. Sheffield, VT) hit a two run RBI double to the right-center gap as the Hornets cut Husson's lead to two.  With the tying runs in scoring position and one out, Richard came in to close the game.  Richard got the next batter to ground out to shortstop and ended the game with a strikeout as the Eagles took the first game 5-3.  Sargent ended up with the win and Richard got the save.

In the second game, the Hornets reached on an error and two singles to load the bases with no outs in the top of the first.  However, the Eagles would get out of the inning only giving up one run on a groundball that the Eagles turned into a double play.

In the bottom of the third the Eagles tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Berry that scored Brianna Webster (Fy. Belfast, ME) from third.  The Eagles took the lead on the next play as Sargent had a RBI groundout that scored Dottie Cameron (So. South Plainfield, NJ).

With the Hornets still down 2-1 in the top of the seventh Katelyn Willey (Fy. Lancaster, NH) led off the inning with a triple down the right field line.  Eisenhardt would then bunt in Willey from third to tie the game.  In the bottom of the seventh, Cameron led off the inning with a double to left-center field.  Cameron would move to third on a sacrifice bunt.  Berry would hit an infield single, scoring Cameron to end the game as the Eagles won 3-2.
