Softball Wins Eighth Straight


 

Bangor, ME - The Husson University Eagles swept the University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls on Wednesday.  Husson won the first game 9-0 in five innings and the second game 9-2.  With the two victories, the Eagles win their eighth straight game and improve to 11-11 on the season, while the Owls fall to 9-9.

In the first game, Dottie Cameron (So. South Plainfield, NJ) led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to left field.  Cameron moved all the way from first to third on a sac bunt.  Cassie Berry (Jr. Newcastle, ME) then lined a shot to left, scoring Cameron from third.  After Berry stole second, Megan Richard (So. Wilton, ME) ripped a double to right-center scoring Berry.  Richard would end up scoring on a wild pitch, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.

Berry led off the bottom of the first with a solo homerun to left field.  Richard then hit her second double of the game, this time to left-center field.  Richard would score on an infield throwing error as the Eagles took a 5-0 lead. 

The Eagles added a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Cameron.  After three singles to start of the bottom of the fifth, Caitlin LeBorgne (So.Scarborough, ME) would rip a three RBI triple down the left-field line; ending the game as the Eagles eight-run ruled the Owls, 9-0.

In the second game, the Owls struck first in the top of the second.  Erica Davis (Jr. North Yarmouth, ME) led off the inning with a single to center field.  Davis would later score on an outfield error.  With two outs and Nicole Russell (Jr. Newcastle, ME) on second base, Cassie Green (Fy. Truro, Nova Scotia) hit a RBI single to right field.  The Eagles would get one back in the bottom of the second as the Owls took a 2-1 lead after two innings of play.

Husson would tie up the game in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single by Rachel Voicechovski (Fy. Brewer, ME).  Diann Ramsey (So. Otisfield, ME) would double home Voicechovski to give Husson the lead.  The Eagles would go on to score three more runs, as they took a 6-2 lead going into the fifth inning.  Husson scored three more runs as they won 9-2.
