Men's Lacrosse Defeats Thomas in Second-Straight Victory
Bangor, ME – Husson men's lacrosse picked up their second win of the season against North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent Thomas College on Tuesday afternoon at Boucher Field.
Husson opened the game with two quick goals, the first coming just over a minute in from Brandon Corbo (Merrimack, NH) off an assist from Vinny Visconti (North Andover, MA) and the second a minute later unassisted from Visconti. The Eagles closed out a dominant first quarter with another goal from Corbo with 1:57 remaining and a goal from Nolan Brown (Waterford, CT) with an assist by Kevin Nolan (Norwood, MA).
Corbo opened the second quarter with his third goal of the game to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead. With 5:46 on the clock, Thomas got on the board as an intended pass by Jordan Marino deflected into the goal during a man-up opportunity.
Thomas carried the momentum of their first goal into the third quarter, as they scored two more unanswered goals to bring it to 5-3 on another man-up opportunity. Caleb Runci scored the first goal off an assist from Parker Chute, and Oleg Deyle scored unassisted just seconds later. Husson responded with a critical man-down goal from Visconti, his second of the day, and the Terriers' Gunnar Shelton scored one more in the last minute of the quarter. Visconti scored his third goal of the day with nine seconds remaining to bring the score to 6-4 heading into the final quarter.
In the final quarter, Visconti got the Eagles on the board yet again with a goal with 13:34 remaining, and Corbo scored his last goal of the day just 34 seconds later to give the Eagles a 9-4 lead. Shelton got the Terriers a goal amidst a flurry of penalties with a minute left on the clock, and James Seager (Gilford, NH) added an insurance goal for Husson with nine seconds remaining.
Eric Lund (Mansfield, MA) made six saves in the winning effort for the Eagles, while Carlos Cardona made seven saves in the loss for the Terriers.
The Eagles improve to 2-2 on the season (2-0 NAC) with the win, while Thomas falls to 0-6. Husson will be back in action on Sunday as they take on Green Mountain College at Castleton in a 10 AM match.
