Bangor, ME – The Husson University men's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the 2011 campaign, besting the Monks of St. Joseph's College 14-3 in the afternoon game at Husson's Boucher Field. Ben Landry (Lewiston, ME) scored 6 times as the Eagles jumped ahead quickly and stayed ahead to earn the much needed victory. Matt Sweeney (Norwood, MA) and Mitch Heaps (Felton, PA) each had 3 points with Sweeney netting two and assisting one, while Heaps scored once and set up two of his teammates to lead the high-flying Eagles.
Husson was strong on the draw, winning 16 of the 21 faceoff opportunities, thanks to the hard work of Dillon Shaw (Augusta, ME) who went 14-4from the dot. John Hooper (Wakefield, RI) was a force in net, saving 16 on the day. Matt Tabler (Catonsville, MD) played well on defense picking up 10 groundballs.
Paul Dolewa (Saco, Me) and Zachary Chaisson (Concord, NH) led St. Joseph's with 2 points apiece, both of Dolewa's were assists and Chiasson netted two for the Monks. Christopher Driscoll (Saco, Me) saved one more than he let up, stopping 15 in the cage.
Husson will return to the field on Thursday when they travel to New England College with the game scheduled for 6:00 pm. St. Joseph's will take their 4-4 record on the road when they play Johnson State on Thursday, March 31st at 7:30 pm in a neutral site contest at Deering High School's Memorial Stadium in Portland, ME.
