Men's Lacrosse Prepares for Second Season

On October 17th, 2009, the Husson University men's lacrosse team embarked on their second season under head coach Jeremy Mattoon. The Eagles participated in the third annual Barbara Bush "Lax 4 Life" Lacrosse Tournament hosted by the University of New England. Along with the Eagles, the men's lacrosse teams of the University of New England, St Josephs (ME), Maine Maritime Academy, and the University of Southern Maine participated in the day's events.
The Eagles played two "shortened" games over the course of the day facing off against the University of New England in their first game and the University of Southern Maine in the second. Before the game, Head Coach Jeremy Mattoon stated that he was "very excited about the opportunity to participate in such a worthy event" and thought that his team "was very young, but very talented, and should surprise some people today".
The results of the first game were UNE 8, Husson 3. The Eagles goals were scored by Sophomore Ben Landry (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston), Freshman Mitch Heaps(York, PA/Red Lion), and Freshman Alex Ryan(Northfield, NH/Bishop Brady). Additionally, the Eagles received stellar play in the goal by Alex Behzad(Stamford, Ct./Westhill) and Tyler Quinn(McLean, VA/McLean) along with outstanding defensive play from Freshman Matt Tabler(Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) and Sophomore Mike Labrie(Oakland, ME/Messalonskee)
In the second contest, the Eagles tied USM, 3-3. Goal scorers were Freshman Derrick Schlimm(Hanover, PA/Southwestern) with two goals and Freshman Chris Pelletier(Rome, ME/Messalonskee) with one goal. Transfer John Hooper(Wakefield, RI/Prout School) was outstanding in the cage and was aided by the excellent defensive play of Tabler, Labrie and Freshman Wayne Stubbs(Keene, NH/Gow School). Coach Mattoon also noted that there was some "phenomenal" play at the midfield for the Eagles.
The Eagles traditional season begins January 26th, 2010, and the first game is March 7th, 2010 versus Gwynedd-Mercy College in Philadelphia, Pa.
