Coach Mattoon Prepares Danish Lacrosse National Team

Husson University Men's Lacrosse Coach Jeremy Mattoon returned to Europe and spent last week in Denmark where he is serving as an assistant coach for the Danish Men's Lacrosse National Team that is preparing for the 2010 Men's World Lacrosse Championship to be held in Manchester, England July 10 - 24, 2010.  Mattoon will be the offensive coordinator for the team.  While in Copenhagen with the team he spent his time familiarizing himself with the players, running a training camp and making general preparations for competition.

"This is a great opportunity and I am very thankful to Coach Parker and the Danes for giving me a chance to coach at the world level.  The World Championships is the Olympics for Lacrosse and to be a part of the experience is a once in a life time opportunity," stated Coach Mattoon.  "I have been connected with the Danish Team for several years now and I think that they have the talent to be very competitive in England in 2010."

The Men's World Lacrosse Championship is played every four years and in 2010 over 31 countries will be represented.  The games are being held at the Manchester University Sports grounds, The Firs.  All divisions and stages of the Championships will take place at the venue.  In 2006, Canada won the World Championship by upsetting the United States 15-10.

"Coach Mattoon's passion for the game of lacrosse is evident in both his international work and his coaching at Husson," said Director of Athletics Cindy Connelley.  "This is  a wonderful opportunity not only for him personally but it will offer our student athletes the chance to see how the game is played in Europe as well as here."

Coach Mattoon spent 2002-2005 coaching in Europe with the HTHC Hamburg Warriors.  Based in Hamburg, Germany, The Warriors are widely recognized as one of the premiere lacrosse organizations in Europe. While in Germany, Coach Mattoon posted a remarkable .975 winning percentage in three seasons with the Warriors. On two separate occasions (2003, 2004), Mattoon led The Warriors to the German Championship game and was twice named Northern German Lacrosse League Coach of the year.

Also in 2002, Mattoon helped bring the first ever lacrosse game to Denmark.  He traveled with his HTHC Hamburg Warriors and played a game against Copenhagen Lacrosse Club.  He was one of the officials for the first-ever Danish Lacrosse League Championship Game in August 2005.  Coach Mattoon worked with Kevin Parker, Head Coach of the Danish National Team, in Germany 2004-2005.  Coach Mattoon and Parker have played and coached lacrosse with each other for over 15 years.

In his first season with the Eagles, Coach Mattoon led Husson to a 4-9 record in their first season of competition.  The Eagles have 20 incoming student athletes representing nine different states along with 18 returning student athletes.  They will begin their fall practice season September 15, 2009, and open their regular season March 7, 2010, against Gwynedd-Mercy College, PA.
