Castleton Outlast Eagles
Castleton, VT - Castleton State College battled through 30
minutes of even lacrosse with Husson, but the seasoned Spartans
proved to be too much down the stretch and defeated the young
Eagles 15-6 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday
afternoon
Castleton trailed 3-1 after the first period as Sam Smith, Chris
Lloyd and Ben Landry each scored, after Kirk Bolduc made it 1-0
Castleton.
The Spartans pulled even in the second period, outscoring the
Eagles 3-1 to make it 4-4 at halftime. The third period proved
pivotal, as Castleton put the game out of reach with seven
unanswered goals, and did not allow an Eagle shot. Phil Barry
scored two of his game-high three goals in the third period to pace
the Spartan attack.
Bolduc and Michael Martinez each finished with two goals, while
Kevin McCarthy added one goal and one assist for the 8-4 (7-0 NAC)
Spartans. Craig MacDerment and Jake Rick paced the Spartan
transition, each scoring one goal and one assist, with MacDerment
going a perfect 12-for-12 on face offs and Rick grabbing 13 ground
balls.
Anthony Diaz led the Eagles with two goals, while Smith had one
goals and two assists for 4-7 (3-5 NAC) Husson.
Mike Mamunes stopped eight shots in 40:47 before being relieved by
David DeGhetto who stopped two over the final 19:13.
Matt Linnell made 20 saves in the loss for Husson.
Castleton returns to action Monday afternoon at 4:00 pm when the
Spartans play host to Kean University in non-league action.
