Jeremy Mattoon has been named Husson University's first Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. The program will begin play this spring. Mattoon has an excellent background in lacrosse.
Coach Mattoon was named head coach in November 2008 and is the programs first coach. He is a native of Corning, NY, and has coached lacrosse for more than 10 years. He has spent most of his coaching career in the Washington DC area, serving as an assistant coach with 2 different programs and head coaching two others. Coach Mattoon also spent some time in his hometown, serving as a volunteer assistant at Notre Dame High School in Elmira, NY.
In addition, Coach Mattoon has taken his lacrosse career overseas, serving as the men's lacrosse director of the HTHC Hamburg Warriors from 2002-2005. The HTHC Hamburg Warriors are based in Hamburg, Germany and are widely recognized as one of the premiere lacrosse organizations in Europe. While in Germany, he posted a remarkable .975 winning percentage in just over 3 season with the Warriors. On two separate occasions (2003, 2004), Mattoon led the Warriors to the German Championship game and was twice named Northern German Lacrosse League Coach of the year.
Prior to being named men's head coach, Coach Mattoon served as a History teacher and boy's varsity head coach at Saint Johns Catholic Prep in Frederick, Maryland. Saint Johns is a member of the prestigious MIAA conference and competes in its "C" conference. Coach Mattoon is proud to say that in his two seasons with the Vikings, he coached four All-MIAA selections and over 10 All-County selections. In 2008, he guided the Vikings to a 13-0 regular season record and an appearance in the MIAA "C" conference championship game. Mattoon was also named the 2008 Frederick County Coach of the Year.
Coach Mattoon holds a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Maryland and will complete his Master's degree in Secondary Education from McDaniel College in 2009.
