Eagles Defeat Mariners, Improve to 6-0

Bangor, ME – The Husson men's basketball team extended its unbeaten streak to six with a win over North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles won by a final score of 103-57 and stand at 6-0 on the season (2-0 NAC). Today marked the second time this season that Husson surpassed the 100-point mark. The Mariners fall to 1-6 (0-2 NAC).

The Eagles started off their dominant performance going up 14-2 early in the game and maintaining a double-digit lead the entire game. First year Raheem Anderson (Everglades, FL) had a strong first half showing, putting up 15 points. Dan Fleming (Fairfield, ME) put up 11 points in the opening half, and Phil Leighton (Naples, ME) added 8 points and grabbed a team-leading 7 rebounds. Trevon Butler (Waterbury, CT) sunk a buzzer-beating three-pointer to put the Eagles up 57-29 going into the half.

Tyler Chiasson (Dixfield, ME) led the Mariners with 11 points in the first half, and Tyler Gilson (Thomaston, ME) grabbed a team-leading five rebounds.

The Husson Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2013 was introduced at halftime as part of Husson Sports Hall of Fame Weekend. The 2013 inductees are: Joe Alvarez ('02), Kelly A. Dow ('00), Leah Drew Harvey ('08), Aaron Largay ('00), Mike McCaffrey ('99), and Ross Salovitch ('08).

Husson pulled away and extended their lead in the second half, with the Mariners finding no answers. The Eagles went deep into their bench and saw positive contributions from a number of players. Anderson ended up with a team-leading 21 points on the day, and Leighton finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Fleming and Aaron Willis (New York, NY) also finished the day in double figures, with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Garrett Libby (Stillwater, ME) led the Mariners with 18 points, and Chiasson finished with 13. Gilson contributed a team-leading 9 rebounds, and Kyle Boucher (Wayne, ME) chipped in with 7.

Husson head coach Warren Caruso commented, "We were able to set the tempo we wanted and apply good defensive pressure. It was a good team effort with contributions from a lot of people."

The Eagles will continue conference play with Green Mountain and Castleton on the road next weekend. Maine Maritime will host Bowdoin for a December 10 matchup.
