Husson Upsets Plymouth State to Advance in ECAC Tournament
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Matt MacKenzie (Warren, Maine) scored a game-high 19 points Wednesday evening as sixth-seeded Husson University upset third-seeded Plymouth State University, 70-62, in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Men's Basketball Tournament at Foley Gymnasium. The Eagles will travel to Eastern Connecticut College where they will compete against Elms College on Saturday, March 6, at 7:00 PM.

Brock Bradford Named ESPN Academic All-American
Bangor, ME - Brock Bradford (Sr., Kenduskeag, ME) has been selected as a 2009-10 ESPN First Team Academic All-American. Bradford is one of five student-athletes in the country to receive this prestigious award and is the first Academic All-American in Hussons history. The award is presented by ESPN the Magazine and is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).

Brock Bradford Named NAC Player of the Week, MMBCWA Honor Roll
Brock Bradford (Sr., Kenduskeag, ME) was named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) player of the week. Bradford was also named to th MMBCWA (Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association) honor roll. Two weeks after returning from an ACL tear, Brock Bradford (Sr., Kenduskeag, ME) averaged 19 points per game while shooting 48% from the floor in Husson's wins over Green Mountain and Castleton. The senior guard was 10-21 from behind the three point line, knocking down a season-high six in a win over Green Mountain.

Eagles Defeat Castleton, Earn Fourth Seed in NAC Tournament
Bangor, ME The Husson University mens basketball team secured the fourth seed in the upcoming North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tournament with a 65-50 win over Castleton. The defending NAC champions willl host green Moutnain College in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, February 23. With the win, Husson improves to 15-10 overall and 9-5 in the conference. Castleton, who is seeded second in the NAC, falls to 10-4 in the conference and 16-9 overall.

Eagles Back on Track
Bangor, ME The Husson University Eagles returned to their winning ways with a 98-68 victory over Green Mountain College. The team participated in Think Pink, donning pink warm-up jerseys and playing before a crowd clad in pink to help raise breast cancer awareness. With the win, Husson improves to 14-0 overall and 8-5 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC). Green Mountain falls to 7-16 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

Jones Leads Nation in Single Game Rebounds
Josh Jones (So., Jefferson, ME) is currently 10th in the country in rebounding for Division III. Jones is averaging 11.4 rebounds per game and leads the Eagles with 15 points per game. On February 12th against Lyndon State, Jones pulled down 27 boards. Jones now leads the nation in rebounds in a single game this season.

(February 13, 2010) Johnson State won their fourth consecutive game and fifth in six games by defeating visiting Husson University 64-66 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) mens basketball action on Saturday at Carter Gym. Senior Leandro Martinez (Philadelphia, Penn./Holy Ghost) tossed in a floater with :04 seconds remaining. The loss drops Husson to 13-10 and 7-5 in the NAC.

Eagles in the Community
Husson Universitys mens basketball team participated in Fruit Street Elementary Schools Winter Olympics. Student-athletes Marc Zarharchuk (Fy., Richmond, ME) Wes Murphy (Fy., Norwich, CT), Josh Jones (So., Jefferson, ME) , and Brad Libby (So., Brewer, ME) along with head coach Warren Caruso spoke to the students about the spirit of the Olympics, sportsmanship, and participation. The program was organized by physical education teacher Alan Mosca and Wendy Libby, who is the mother of Eagle Brad Libby.

Bangor, ME In a charged Newman Gymnasium, the Husson Eagles lost a hard fought battle to conference rivals University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) 60-65. Despite battling back from large deficits in both the first and second half, Husson could not come away with a victory and falls to 12-7 and 6-2 in the conference.

Josh Jones Named Male Athlete of the Week Named MMBCWA
Josh Jones (So., Jefferson, ME) was named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) player of the week. Jones, a 65 junior forward, posted some huge numbers to help lead Husson to a 2-1 week. He averaged 20.3 points and 17.7 rebounds while posting three doubledoubles. He grabbed 20 rebounds in a loss to UNE, then registered 27 points, 17 boards and 24 points, 16 caroms in back-to-back league wins. For the week, he shot a sizzling 63.9 percent (23 of 36) from the field.

MacKenzie Named NAC Player of the Week
Matt MacKenzie (Sr., Wrren, ME) paced the Eagles this week averaging 19 points per game while shooting 71% (25-35) from the field in a 2-1 week. Against Green Mountain, MacKenzie recorded 26 points and 7 rebounds, shooting 11-16 from the floor. MacKenzie netted 16 points going 7-8 from the floor against Castleton. In Husson's loss to Maine Farmington, MacKenzie tallied 15 points and three rebounds, while shooting 7-11 from the floor.

The Husson Eagles recorded their first conference win with an 82-71 victory over Thomas and head coach, Warren Caruso, reached a career milestone achieving his 300th win. In a rematch of last seasons championship game, the Eagles once again prevailed with the victory bringing their regular season record to 6-4.

Zaharchuk Named NAC Rookie of the Week
First year student Marc Zaharchuk (Richmond, ME) had a breakout performance in Husson's win against University of Southern Maine. Zaharchuk tallied 15 points and shot 5-6 from the floor and 5-5 from the free-throw line. Against Colby, Zaharchuk collected 13 rebounds and 7 points in Husson's losing effort. The first-year student has been seeing considerably more playing time off the bench as the season has progressed.

In addition to Husson, other invited teams include Bates, University of Maine at Machias and the University Maine at Fort Kent. Bates and U. Maine Machias will tip off at 6:00 PM on Friday followed by Husson versus U. Maine Fort Kent at 8:00 PM. Coach Caruso to Co-Host WZON Afternoon Show
Coming off a big win against St. Joseph's College, Head Men's Basketball Coach, Warren Caruso, will co-host WZON's afternoon show from 4:00-5:00 with Jeff Solari. Coach Caruso is just four games shy of his 300th career win at Husson. Coach Caruso will discuss Husson's sports programs including his team and will also address local and national sports interests.

Men's Basketball Poised For Season Opener
The Husson University mens basketball program is gearing up for the 2009-10 season. The 2009 NAC Champions are slated to finish first in the NAC Preseason Poll with a solid line-up returning. The Eagles return their top three scorers from a year ago but only 6 players from last years championship team. Husson begins their season on the road when they play Gordon College on November 18 at 7:00 PM.

Husson Men's Basketball Selected to Finish First in North Atlantic Conference
Husson University was selected as the men's basketball preseason favorite of the North Atlantic Conference in a vote conducted by the league's coaches. The Eagles were a unanimous choice for the top spot receiving all eight first place votes and a total of 64 points in the NAC men's basketball preseason poll. Husson returns six players including the all-conference senior tandem of Brock Bradford and Matt MacKenzie from a squad which went 11-3 in conference play and won their first NAC Championship.

Newman Gym Starts to Shine
View the progress of Newman Gymnasium floor. The first coat of polyurethane was applied to the floor and the nature grains of the maple floor are incredible. The next step will be to begin taping the floor for the volleyball and basketball lines to be painted. Check in this weekend to see how the floor is progressing.

Newman Gymnasium Floor Receiving Facelift
A long-planned renovation of the Newman Gymnasium floor has begun. The venerable floor turned 40 this year and was in dire need of a face lift. The current maple floor is one of the best in New England and when the first phase is completed, the wood grain will show its original characteristics.
