Men's Basketball Announce Recruiting Class


The men's basketball program is coming off a championship season and Head Coach Warren Caruso has announced his 2009 recruiting class.  Eight student athletes have been accepted, paid a tuition deposit, and have verbally committed for next season. 

The Eagles finished the season at 16-12 winning their first NAC title, earning a trip to the NCAA.  Eight student athletes look to return on this year's roster, led by 1st team All-NAC selections Brock Bradford (Sr, Kenduskeag, ME) and Matt MacKenzie (Sr, Warren, ME). 

The class is headed by 6-10 center Mark Zaharchuck (Richmond, ME).  Zaharchuck was a 2nd team All-State selection in 2008 while leading Richmond High School to a Class C title.  This past winter he played at MCI Prep. 

Phil Leighton (Lake Region, ME) is a 6-1 combo guard from Lake Region High School, averaged 20.5 points and 4 assists on the season.  Leighton was named Honorable Mention All State and West A/B McDonald's All Star Team.    

John Klages (Freeport, ME) is a 6-5 forward from Freeport High School, he averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds on the season.  Klages was Honorable Mention All-State and was named to the West A/B McDonald's All-Star Team.

Eben Powers (Stonington, ME) is a 6-3 forward and was a four year varsity player for DI Stonington, he averaged 25 points and 16 rebounds on the year.  He surpassed the 1000 career point mark and was named Honorable Mention All-State.  Powers was named to the East C/D McDonald's All-Star Team. 

Eric Modica (Kittery, ME) is a 6-2 guard at Triap Academy, he averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game.  He was named Honorable Mention All-State and to the West C/D McDonalds All-Star Team. 

Brooks Spaulding (Fairfield, ME) is a 6-5 forward from Lawrence High School. Spaulding averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds on the season.   

The Eagles will also have two transfers joining the program.  Dylan Palmer (Newport, ME) will transfer in from Western Conn State.  Palmer played at MCI Prep in 2007-2008.  Andrew Trundy (Glenburn, ME) will also join the program, he 2006 Bangor High School graduate.        

The Eagles have eight returning from a year ago and have two additional student-athletes on campus who sat out this season.  Josh Jones (Jefferson, ME) is a 6-5 junior forward who played at Erskine Academy and transferred in from U. Texas Permian Basin.  Dwayne Mitchell (Newark, NJ) 5-11 junior guard who transferred from U. Maine Presque Isle.
