Eagles Edge Thomas


Bangor, ME – Husson edged Thomas College in their North Atlantic Conference opener 76-72. Brock Bradford (JR, Kenduskeag, ME) led the way with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Husson moves to 4-8 (1-0 NAC) while Thomas drops to 3-8 (0-2 NAC) on the year.

Matt Cummings (JR, Howland, ME) made 3-4 from the foul line in the last minute of play to seal the win for the Eagles. With 8:56 remaining, the game was tied at 59-59. The Eagles managed a 6-1 run over the next two minutes with three different Eagles scoring, capped off with Bradford’s two foul shots putting Husson up 65-60 with 6:43 to go.

James Liebowitz (SR, Winslow, ME) lay-up made it 71-69 with 1:40 remaining. Bradford answered for the Eagles as he put back his own missed shot pushing the lead to 73-69. Cummings connected on two of his foul shots making it 75-69, Issiah Brathwaite (SO, Farmington, ME) hit a three pointer on Thomas next trip down to cut the lead to 75-72 with :20 seconds remaining. Cummings hit 1-2 from the foul line to seal the win for the Eagles.

Matt MacKenize (JR, Warren, ME) added 17 points and 4 assists for the Eagles while Jay Urhin (SO, Winterport, ME) chipped in 11 points.

Andrew Duncanson (SO, Portland, ME) finished with a game high 23 points, 20 coming in the first half, to pace Thomas. Michael Burchill (SO, Saco, ME) added 18 points and Brathwaite had 10 points.

The game featured 9 ties and 10 lead changes while neither team lead by more than 6 at anytime.

Both teams next play on Saturday, January 17th. Husson travels to Maine Maritime Academy and Thomas host U. Maine Farmington both game tip-off at 1:00 pm.
