Husson University Wins NAC Golf Championship

Orono, ME- Husson University won its fourth consecutive North
Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Golf Championship, scoring a 308
during round two for a two-day 604 at the Penobscot Valley Country
Club. The Eagles finished the season a perfect 8-0 and
secured medalist honors in every tournament. Castleton
College finished second with a two-day 644.
Kevin Byrne of Husson fired a two-day 142 to earn medalist honors
for the tournament and was named NAC Golfer of the year.
Husson played consistently throughout the tournament, taking three
of the top five positions. After two days of great golf, Husson's
Mike Hersey's 148 (71,77) finished just seven strokes ahead of
Castleton's Michael Krahn (74, 81). Husson University and the
University of Maine- Farmington rounded out the top five positions
with Matt Loubier (HUS) landing in fourth with a two day
score of 157 (76,81) and Reid Bond (UMF) taking the fifth seat with
a close score of 158 (80,78).
University of Maine-Farmington stayed consistent to finish third
at 652 (326, 326). Thomas College and Maine Maritime
Academy battled for the 4th and 5th place
spots at the event. Thomas College scored a 704 (350,354) with two
men, Falco and Colello, scoring an 88 on the second day of play.
MMA scored 710 at the tournament with Michael Smith scoring an 81
on both days.
Johnson State, 729 (348,381) and Green Mountain College, 866, rounded out the top seven teams of the North Atlantic Conference's Golf Championship Tournament.
