Husson Names Co-Head Coaches

Husson University has named co-head coaches to lead their golf program. Jason Harvey, former Husson golfer and currently head Baseball Coach and Assistant Director of Admissions and Ed Meo, also a former member of the Husson golf team will share duties. Harvey will serve as golf program manager and Meo will handle day to day operations. They replace long-time coach Bruce MacGregor who stepped down earlier this spring.

Harvey is a well-known area golfer and the current Paul Bunyan champion.  This week he is competing in the Maine Amateur being held at Martindale County Club.  He received his degree in Business Administration/Sports Management from Husson in 2007 following an athletic career that included 3 years of baseball, 4 years of basketball, and a year of golf.     He has been the head baseball coach for a year and a half and was the assistant baseball and basketball coach for half a year after his graduation. He will handle administrative duties for the team and also work with the players on specific aspects of their games.

"I am very excited about becoming part of the golf program here at Husson," said Harvey.  "This is a great opportunity for me to coach another sport that I love and keep the Husson golf program as one of the best programs in New England.  I am looking forward to working with the great group of players that we have coming back and the new guys coming in.  Golf is one of my passions and to be able to coach it, along with baseball, at the college level is great.  I can't wait to get started in the fall."

Meo is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida who moved to Maine in 1995.  He studied at Husson last year and played on the golf team that traveled to the NCAA Division III National Golf Tournament in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  Meo will travel with the team and work with the players on specifics of the game.

"I have played golf since the age of two when my grandparents taught me to play," said Meo.  "They taught me it is more than just a game. They taught golf is about respect, etiquette, and sportsmanship. I look forward to the opportunity of coaching this team. There is a great group of returning players and some new recruits that will only strengthen the team. The team has a great chemistry and should do well this season."

"It's exciting to have two outstanding individuals continue our well established golf program," said Athletic Director Cindy Connelley. "Both Jason and Ed are individuals of highest integrity and both will contribute greatly to the Husson athletic mission."

The Eagles will begin fall practice August 26. Their first tournament is the Terrier Invitational at Natanis Golf Course on September 8th.   They will play in 7 tournaments including the State of Maine Championship September 25 and 26 at Natanis and the New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship October 18-20, plus the NAC Championship which Husson will host and will be played at Penobscot Valley Country Club October 11-12.

Top returning players are John Ellis, a senior from Belfast, ME, Ben Estabrook a senior from Bangor, ME, Kevin Byrne a junior from Winslow, ME, Mike Hersey a sophomore from Presque Isle, ME and Matt Loubier a sophomore from Winslow, ME.
