Jeffs Earn 3-0 Win Over Husson in NCAA First Round

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Fourth-seeded Husson University claimed the North Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Championship with a 2-0 win over third-seeded University of Maine at Farmington today at Prescott Field. STANDISH, ME – Husson University Field Hockey upset St. Joseph’s in the North Atlantic Conference Semifinal match winning 2-1 on penalty strokes. With no time remaining in regulation play, Skye Ellis (Jr., Belfast, ME) scored a game-tying goal off a penalty corner propelling Husson into overtime. After two scoreless overtimes and one hundred minutes of play, Husson outscored St. Joseph’s on penalty strokes to advance to the NAC Championship. Husson will vie for the NAC title against University of Maine at Farmington on November 7. [read more]

Kristen Capen (Fy., Leeds, ME) was North Atlantic Conference field hockey rookie of the week. Kristen Capen anchored the Eagles with goalkeeping saves in the Eagles NAC first round win against Lasell College and a win against Bates. Against Lasell, Capen tallied 5 saves off 13 shots. The first-year student shut down Lasell's best scoring opportunity late in the second half by coming off her line and smothering a Lasers break-away. Against Bates, Capen recorded 9 saves on 20 shots and helped her team earn a tight 2-1 victory. Capen and the Eagles will play at St. Joesph's in the NAC Semifinals on November 4. [read more]

Heading into their North Atlantic Conference Semifinal Game at St. Joseph's, Husson will have the strength of five NAC All Conference team members. Helen Berry (Jr., Belfast, ME) was selected to the NAC First Team All Conference. Courtney Allen (Jr., Gardiner, ME), Lorri Hiltz (So., Norridgewock, ME), Jenika Kelley (Sr., Livermore Falls, ME) and Jillian Morin (Jr., Manchester, ME) were all named to the NAC Second Team All Conference. Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College field hockey team received goals from four different players and improved to a perfect 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a 4-1 win over Husson University Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium. [read more]

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Husson lost to the 13th-ranked Bowdoin College field hockey team 6-0 giving up three goals in each period. The Eagles drop to 1-3 while the Polar Bears improve to 4-2. [read more]

Constant offensive pressure led the Eagles to a 6-0 victory over the Raiders. Courtney Allen (Jr. Gardiner, ME) paced the Eagles with a first half hat trick. A dominant Husson did not allow a single Raiders shot in the game outshooting Rivier 33-0. [read more]

Selected to finish second in the NAC, the Eagles begin conference play tomorrow, September 19, at Rivier. The Eagles will be anchored by defender Jenika Kelley (Livermore Falls, ME), a first-team honoree last season. [read more]

Athletic Director Cindy Connelley introduced Katie Flaherty as the new Field Hockey Coach for the University. Flaherty emerged from an extensive search and excellent candidate pool. Flaherty is a graduate of U. Maine Orono were she played field hockey from 2003-2006 and served as a graduate assistant in 2007. [read more]

The North Atlantic Conference announced the fall NAC All-Academic Team. The Eagles had 13 student athletes named to the team. A student athlete must be in their junior or senior year, carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, and participated for two years in their sport. [read more]

Sharon Tracy has stepped down as the Head Field Hockey Coach at Husson University. She served as head coach since 2003 season. Over the last six seasons, Tracy has guided the Eagles to a 43-47 record. In 2007, the Eagles were the #1 seed in the NAC Tournament. [read more]
