Eagles Eager for Home Opener

Husson University field hockey will get their season underway tonight under the lights against Colby College.  First year Head Coach Katie Flaherty will look to build on an 8-8 season from a year ago.  The Eagles return six starters but will need to replace 5 key components.

A key to the Eagles success will be replacing scoring.  The top three scorers from a year ago are gone including the programs all-time leading scorer Erica Dorso (Farmingdale, ME).  Courtney Allen (Jr., Gardiner, ME) returns to pace the offense, she registered 8 goals a year ago.  She will get help from Jillian Morin (Jr., Manchester, ME) who had 3 goals in 2008.

The defense will be led by 2008 1st Team All-NAC selection Jenika Kelley (Sr., Livermore Falls, ME).  Helen Berry (Jr., Belfast, ME) also returns at the defensive end to give a solid defense in front of a rookie goalie.  First year players Kristen Capen (Leeds, ME) and Heather Durkee (Brunswick, ME) are battling for the starting goalie spot.

The Eagles return a strong midfield with Lindsay Barnes (Sr., Owls Head, ME) and Lorri Hiltz (So., Norridgewock, ME), both return as starters in the midfield.  They have plenty of experience to help the Eagles control the play.

Husson finished 8-8 in 2008 losing in the NAC Semi-Finals but played in the NAC Championship game in 2007.  Look for the Eagles to come together and make a late run in the NAC tournament.

They open tonight against Colby College at the Winkin Complex (7:00 pm) and then travel to Rivier on Saturday, September 19 (12:00 pm).
