Flaherty Named Field Hockey Coach
Athletic Director Cindy Connelley introduced Katie Flaherty as
the new Field Hockey Coach for the University. Flaherty emerged
from an extensive search and excellent candidate pool. Flaherty is
a graduate of U. Maine Orono were she played field hockey from
2003-2006 and served as a graduate assistant in 2007.
Flaherty will begin coaching immediately and conduct spring
practices at the end of the month. She previously served as an
assistant coach for field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse at
Thomas College. Flaherty currently coaches the Majestix Club team
(U16) and previously at the USA Futures Program in Orono.
“Coach Flaherty comes with very strong recommendations about
her ability to build on the program's successes and lead this team
in the NAC as well as deep into the NCAA tournament" Athletic
Director Cindy Connelley states. “We were looking for someone
with a fire and passion for field hockey with the ability to have
good student rapport and support our academic mission. Katie can
both teach and coach the game, as she has been involved with hockey
in the state of Maine, where high school hockey is so strong".
Flaherty earned a BS and MS in Kinesiology and Physical Education
while attending U. Maine Orono. A three time captain of the Field
Hockey program where she earned America East All-Academic Team and
All-Tournament Team honors in 2004 and 2006. Flarherty was named
America East 2nd Team and All Region 2nd Team in 2006.
Flaherty will assume the head field hockey role and also have
strength and conditioning duties within the athletic department.
