Deuring Named to First Team, Five Eagles Honored by ECFC
Bangor, ME - Eagles' Senior Offensive Lineman Brad Deuring was named to the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Offensive First Team in a vote by league coaches. Deuring is the lone Husson player to earn first team honors, however four of his teammates were named to the ECFC 2nd Team.
Deuring has started for the past three years on the O-Line, and after graduating last spring, returned to the Husson Football program as a graduate student. His decision may have caused him some pain - he played the second half of the season with a cast on his right hand - but it payed off with a First Team All Conference Selection.
Junior Wide Receiver Audie Murphy was named to the Second Team Offense after leading the team in both receiving, and all purpose yards. Click here to view his 2011 statistics.
The Second Team Defense included three members of the Eagles D, Senior Defensive End Chris Dalecki, First Year Linebacker Stephan Dance, and Sophomore Defensive Tackle Ernest Wiggins. Dance finished the season as the NCAA Statistical Champion in Solo Tackles with 85 and also led the Eagles with 102 total tackles. Click here for his season statistics. Dalecki led the Eagles with 5 sacks and 16 TFLs, to view his 2011 statistics, click here. Wiggins was a force on the line, finishing #2 on the Husson squad with 61 total tackles the third-highest total in the ECFC for D-Linemen. Click here for his season statistics.
First year punter Kyle Bishop was also given an honorable mention in the conference awards, and Murphy was also mentioned for his abilities as a returner.
A total of 95 student-athletes received recognition after the completion of the regular season. Senior running back Johrone Bunch from Mount Ida was named Offensive Player of the Year while a pair of junior defenders, Maritime linebacker Keith Barnes and Mount Ida defensive lineman A.J. Knibbs shared Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Norwich kicker Long Ding was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Year for the second consecutive season while Gallaudet's Quentin Williams collected Rookie of the Year and Norwich's Rob Sturgis was named the Offensive Lineman of the Year.
