Husson University has named Sean Murphy Associate Head Football Coach and Assistant Director of Athletics.  Murphy will serve the campus community in his dual roles as coach and administrator and brings a wealth of coaching and administrative experiences to Husson.

Murphy has a broad based Division III coaching resume, coaching at Dickinson College, Bowdoin College, and Plymouth State University.  He most recently served as head football coach at the Bullis School.  Murphy helped Dickinson to two conference championships and many of his players have garnered all-conference recognition at their respective institutions.

“Sean Murphy brings many dimensions to the positions of Assistant Director of Athletics, Associate Head Football Coach and as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  As an educator involved in athletics, he has a bright future because of his talents and work ethic. Along with the recent hiring of Jeff Gettler, we are excited to bring Sean on board as the newest member of our evolving team,” stated Director of Athletics Cindy Connelley.

As an administrator, Murphy has held a range of responsibilities including director of game management, athletic field maintenance, and weight room supervisor/strength and conditioning coach.  After graduating from Marshwood High in Eliot, ME, Murphy earned an undergraduate degree in physical education from Plymouth State University, where he competed as a two sport student-athlete in football and lacrosse.  Murphy received a masters degree from California University of Pennsylvania in Exercise Science and Health Promotion.

“We are excited and pleased that we were able to secure Sean’s services on our football staff.  He has an excellent knowledge of the game and works well with young men.  He will be an asset for Husson,” claimed Head Coach Niles Nelson.

“My wife and I are elated about moving our family back to Maine to join the Husson and Bangor communities. It was clear the first time I was on campus that Husson University is a fantastic institution with tremendous people and an emerging athletics program” stated Murpy.  “The football team has established a great foundation for success and shows endless potential for future growth within the ECFC and NCAA Division III.  I am also thrilled with my administrative responsibilities and am very grateful to Cindy Connelley, Bob Reasso, and Niles Nelson for this opportunity, and can’t wait to get started” continued Murphy.
