Coach Winkin Enjoys 90th Birthday at Winkin Complex

Coach John Winkin enjoys his 90th birthday at Husson University while watching the Zone 1 Legion Tournament being played on the Winkin Complex. Coach Winkin spoke with friends and fans while watching Steamboat Petroleum vs Trenton. Steamboat is coached by Bain Pollard who assisted Coach Winkin at Husson.
Coach Winkin has over 1000 career victories as a baseball coach at Colby College, U. Maine Orono, and Husson. He is a legend in collegiate baseball circles. Winkin coached the University of Maine's Black Bears for 22 years, leading the team to six NCAA Division I College World Series appearances, and at Colby College for 20 years prior to U. Maine. He joined the staff at Husson as an assistant coach in 1996 and became the head coach for the Eagles in 2004.
Named National Coach of the Year in 1965, Winkin has been elected to seven baseball halls of fame. Ninety-two of Winkin's former ballplayers have signed pro contracts and at least 17 reached the major leagues. Coach Winkin has served as chair at both the Regional and Super Regional sites for the NCAA over the past 10 years.
