ECSU Ends Eagles Historic Run


MANSFIELD, Conn. - Eastern Conn State U. ended Husson University's historic run in the NCAA III New England Regional with a 18-3 win. The Eagles finished 2-2 in the tournament before losing to the host and #1 seed Eastern.

Eastern recorded 18 hits – four of them home runs and nine of them for extra bases -- against four pitchers. Perry swatted a two-run home run in the second and a three-run shot in the fifth. Castillo was 3-for-5 (two doubles) with three runs scored and two RBI, and No. 9 hitter Steve Cammuso (Rutland, MA) was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. John Parke (Middlefield, CT), Schult, Gilblair, Perry, and Joe Cousineau (Newington, CT) all contributed two hits each. Schult gave himself a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the top of the first, and Cammuso tagged a two-run shot in the fourth. Schult (4-0) gave up seven hits and only one earned run in his first complete game in eight starts. He fanned a career-high 11 and walked two.

The Eagles led after the 1st inning 2-1 and the score was tied at 3-3 at the end of the 3rd. But they surrendered 10 runs through the middle three innings and couldn’t answer Eastern. Ethan Guerette (So, Wales, ME) and Nick Arthers (Sr, Belfast, ME) each had two hits and one RBI.
Husson finishes the season at 33-14, setting a program record for wins in a season.
