Fall Athletes Arrive On Campus
The athletic fields will come alive as pre-season camp begins this week at Husson University as four sports report for the fall. Football, Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, and Volleyball get under way this week. Student-athletes will move into the dorms and begin receiving physicals starting on Tuesday, August 18th with practices starting later this week.
Football will hold their first practice on Thursday, August 20th from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. New Head Coach Niles Nelson will have over 110 student athletes reporting to camp with close to 60 new faces. The roster will be comprised of half the student-athletes from the State of Maine and the other half representing eight other states. The Eagles will practice on Friday, August 21 at 2:30, Saturday at 2:10 pm, and Sunday at 2:30 pm.
Football will play in the ECFC (Eastern Collegiate Football Conference) this season. The 6 game conference schedule includes; Becker College (Leicester, Mass.), Castleton State College (Castleton, Vt.), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), Maritime College State University of New York (Throggs Neck, N.Y.), Mount Ida College (Newton, Mass.), and Norwich University (Northfield, Vt.). Anna Maria College will join the ECFC as a full member in 2010. The top two teams in the ECFC will play in the conference championship game on November 14th. The Eagles open their 9 game schedule at Merrimack College on September 12th at 1:00 pm.
Women's Soccer opens camp as the three-time defending NAC Champions. Veteran Head Coach Keith Bosley led the Eagles to the second round of the NCAA National Tournament last season and they have made 4 trips to the NCAA National Tournament in the last 5 years. The Eagles will hold their first practice at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, August 19th and practice at the same time Thursday and Friday. Husson will have over 25 student-athletes report to camp including 8 returning starters from a team that finished 16-5 and a perfect 7-0 in conference play. They open their season hosting U. Southern Maine on September 1 at 4:00 pm.
Head Men's Soccer Coach Seth Brown will open camp with 7 returning starters and 13 student-athletes returning from the 2008 NAC Runner-Up team which finished 11-7-1 and 7-0 in NAC play. The Eagles will open camp with over 20 student-athletes with the new players representing five states and 2 foreign countries (Maine, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Nigeria, and England). They will hold their first practice on Wednesday, August 19th at 1:00 pm and practice at the same time Thursday and Friday. The Eagles open their season on September 1st at U. Maine Fort Kent (4:30 pm).
Volleyball will begin practices at Doughty Middle School while Newman Gymnasium is being refinished. The work on Newman Gymnasium is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Head Coach Pat Debeck has 4 returning starters from the NAC Runner-Up team which finished 13-9 and 6-0 in NAC play. Thirteen student-athletes will report to camp for their first practice on Saturday, August 22nd at the Doughty Middle School. Volleyball will practice August 22-25 from 9:00 am - 11:30 am and 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
