Newman Gymnasium Floor Receiving Facelift

A long-planned renovation of the Newman Gymnasium floor has begun. The venerable floor turned 40 this year and was in dire need of a face lift. The current maple floor is one of the best in New England and when the first phase is completed, the wood grain will show its original characteristics. The new Husson athletic logo in vegas gold and green coloring, along with the NCAA logo will soon be painted on the floor. Along with the floor project, the gymnasium area will get new padding and plans are in place to replace the scoreboards later this fall before the basketball season begins. The project is expected to be completed in three weeks.

“Thousands of games have been played on this floor,” said Director of Athletics Cindy Connelley. “The history of the floor will be honored and new history is waiting to be written. Once this project is completed the Newman Gymnasium will shine again."

Husson Volleyball will begin its schedule on the new floor on September 9 vs. UMaine Farmington. Women’s and men’s basketball will begin practice in mid-October.
