Husson University lost its opening game of the season on a very rainy day in North Andover to Division II Merrimack College Saturday afternoon. The Eagles lost both sophmore starting quarterback James McCandless (Hollywood Hills, FL) and junior running back Justin Lindie (Winslow, ME) to injuries in the first half.

Armstrong Joins Volleyball Staff
Amanda Armstrong has been named assistant coach for the Husson University volleyball program. Armstrong was one of the top players for the U. Maine Orono before they dropped their program in 2008. This will be her first opportunity to coach at the college level.

New Head Coach Niles Nelson and the Eagles will travel to Merrimack College Saturday, September 9 to open their 2009 season. Eagles Win in Overtime
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Sophomore forward Tyler Metevier (Kittery, ME) scored with 27 seconds remaining in the second half to send the game into overtime and senior forward Mark Trombley (Burnham, ME) put in the game winner, as Husson came from behind to beat Westfield State, 4-3 in the consolation match of the Soccer City Shootout on Sunday (Sept. 6) at Suprenant Field.

Bangor, Maine Husson University managed just one goal but it proved to be enough to beat Mount Saint Mary 1-0 at John Boucher Field. Sophomore Alexandra Laniewski (Scarborough, ME) scored the games only goal for the Eagles. The Eagles dominated play outshooting Blue Knights 22-4.

Fort Kent, ME The University of Maine at Fort Kent upset the visiting Husson University Eagles 3-1 Thursday afternoon on Alumni Memorial Field in Fort Kent. UMFK was able to contain the 2008 NAC Champions for their first win of the season and recording their first win in school history over Husson.

Newman Gym Starts to Shine
View the progress of Newman Gymnasium floor. The first coat of polyurethane was applied to the floor and the nature grains of the maple floor are incredible. The next step will be to begin taping the floor for the volleyball and basketball lines to be painted. Check in this weekend to see how the floor is progressing.

New Husson Look For Webber Pool
Webber Pool at Husson University will sport a new look this fall. The 40 year old structure received a makeover this summer complete with new lights, new lane lines and flags, signage and a little paint. The new look to the pool area is completely done in the new green and gold to give it an Eagles feel. The renovations will aid the womens swim team entering their 5th year of competition in developing into one of the top NCAA III programs in New England.

Fall Athletes Arrive On Campus
The athletic fields will come alive as pre-season camp begins this week at Husson University as four sports report for the fall. Football, Womens Soccer, Mens Soccer, and Volleyball get under way this week. Student-athletes will move into the dorms and begin receiving physicals starting on Tuesday, August 18th with practices starting later this week.

Newman Gymnasium Floor Receiving Facelift
A long-planned renovation of the Newman Gymnasium floor has begun. The venerable floor turned 40 this year and was in dire need of a face lift. The current maple floor is one of the best in New England and when the first phase is completed, the wood grain will show its original characteristics.

The dugouts on the OKeefe Softball Field received a fresh coat of paint this month. Dedicated in April 2005 the softball field is home to the 2009 NAC Softball Champions. Robert and Frances OKeefe made the field possible with their generous donation.

Husson Universitys pitcher Nate Adams and Assistant Baseball Coach Jason Folsom were honored by the American Legion Zone 1 last week taking home two of the top awards. Adams (SO, Frankfort, ME) was named Player of the Year by the zones eleven coaches and Folsom was selected as Coach of the Year.

Coach Mattoon Prepares Danish Lacrosse National Team
Husson University Mens Lacrosse Coach Jeremy Mattoon returned to Europe and spent last week in Denmark where he is serving as an assistant coach for the Danish Mens Lacrosse National Team that is preparing for the 2010 Mens World Lacrosse Championship to be held in Manchester, England July 10 24, 2010. Mattoon will be the offensive coordinator for the team. While in Copenhagen with the team he spent his time familiarizing himself with the players, running a training camp and making general preparations for competition.

Coach Winkin spoke with friends and fans while watching Steamboat Petroleum vs Trenton. Steamboat is coached by Bain Pollard who assisted Coach Winkin at Husson.

Husson Names Co-Head Coaches
Husson University has named co-head coaches to lead their golf program. Jason Harvey, former Husson golfer and currently head Baseball Coach and Assistant Director of Admissions and Ed Meo, also a former member of the Husson golf team will share duties. Harvey will serve as golf program manager and Meo will handle day to day operations. They replace long-time coach Bruce MacGregor who stepped down earlier this spring.

BEVERLY, Mass. Endicott College cranked out 18 hits, including a 4-for-4 effort from sophomore Ashley Wright (Merrimack, N.H.), as the Gulls rallied from a five run deficit to eliminate Husson University, 11-6, on Friday morning in NCAA Regional Tournament action in Beverly, Mass. Tufts University wasted no time in their pursuit of an NCAA Division III Regional Softball Championship as the Jumbos defeated Husson University, 17-1, in game one of the Regional Championships held on the campus of Endicott College on May 7th. New Football Conference Formed
Husson University football will begin competing in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) in the fall of 2009. The North Atlantic Conference will not add football to its list of conference sponsored sports as initially intended for the fall of 2009. The institutions which had planned to participate with the NAC have determined the formation of a single sport football conference will better serve the needs of their football programs.

Year in a vote by the conference coaches. Arthers led the league in several categories including runs batted in (59),

After completing conference play with a perfect 14-0 mark, Husson University has earned the top seed in the upcoming NAC Softball Championship. The University of Maine-Farmington and Thomas finished tied for second in conference play with a 10-4 mark. Based on predetermined tiebreaking procedures, Thomas was awarded the second seed and the first round bye in the NAC Softball Championship.

Husson Finishes NAC Regular Season Undefeated
Bangor, ME The Husson University Eagles ended their North Atlantic Conference regular season play with two wins over Johnson State on Sunday afternoon. Husson defeated Johnson 12-2 in the first game and 20-2 in the second. With the wins Husson finishes ranked number one in the NAC with a perfect 14-0 record. The Eagles improve to 22-13 overall. Husson Falls in NAC Quarter Final
Saturday, April 25, 2009 (Newton, Massachusetts) - In todays opening quarterfinal round of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) mens lacrosse tournament, Mount Ida College rolled over visiting Husson University 23-3 on a hot and humid Saturday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts. The Mustangs move on to the semifinal round and will host Maine Maritime Academy this coming Wednesday who beat Thomas College 12-5 today. Bangor, ME Husson University swept Lyndon State College on Saturday afternoon, clinching their second straight NAC Regular Season Title. Husson won the first game 5-3 and the second game 3-2. Bangor, ME On Senior Day for Husson University the Eagles honored their six seniors with a come from behind victory as they defeated Bowdoin College 19-9. The Eagles found themselves down 8-3 after 4 ½ innings of play, but rallied to outscore the Polar Bears 16-1 through the last five innings.

Athletic Director Cindy Connelley introduced Katie Flaherty as the new Field Hockey Coach for the University. Flaherty emerged from an extensive search and excellent candidate pool. Flaherty is a graduate of U. Maine Orono were she played field hockey from 2003-2006 and served as a graduate assistant in 2007.

Senior Catcher, Nick Arthers of Belfast, ME was named as the ECAC DIII Baseball Co-Player of the week. Arthers led the Eagles to a 5-1 week, batting .847 (12-for-14). He had three hits against Lyndon
State, including a home run, the game-tying RBI double, and the game-winning run in the

Womens Lacrosse Wins First NAC Game
Bangor, ME The Husson University Womens Lacrosse team earned their first North Atlantic Conference victory as they defeated the University of Maine-Farmington 15-5. Bangor, ME The Thomas College Terriers started off strong, scoring four of the first five goals. However, the Husson University Eagles who have a strong second half and held Thomas scoreless in the fourth quarter, led by goalie Matt Linnell who made three saves. BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Husson College this afternoon from BSC's Alumni Park.
After being one-hit in a 6-0 loss in game one, the Bears rebounded with a 9-7 victory in game two. BSC is now 6-6 on the season while Husson checks in at 11-6.

Men's Lacrosse Season Preview
Husson University enters its first year as a Division III Lacrosse Program in the spring of 2009. The team is led by its inaugural head coach, Jeremy Mattoon, who arrived on campus December 8, 2008. Sharon Tracy has stepped down as the Head Field Hockey Coach at Husson University. She served as head coach since 2003 season.

Eagles Finish 5th in Conference Swim Meet
The Eagles finished 5th in the GNAC Championships, scoring 33 points. Simmons College Swimming & Diving was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Champion of 2008. The Eagles will enter the NAC playoffs as the #1 seed. They await their semi-final match-up were they will face the winner of the Maine Maritime and Green Mountain game on Saturday, November 1. Husson is 4th in the country in scoring at 4.71 goals per game and leads the NAC in all team scoring categories. They are paced by junior forward Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME) who is currently 12th in the country in points per game.

Eagles Run by Mt Ida 16-12
Mount Ida College homecoming was spoiled in a tough 16-12 loss to Husson University this Saturday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts. For 45 minutes through three quarters of football, there was only three points (3-0) recorded on the scoreboard off a field goal by Eagles place kicker, senior Darren Gauthier (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick). Although the Mustang defense gave up 200 yards on the ground to Husson running back Julius Williams (Boston, MA/East Boston), they gave their offense a chance to get in the end zone, with an outstanding defensive performance.

Coach Davey Name NAC Coach of the Year
Lesley sophomore catcher Jodi Fralick was honored as the North Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches. Last season's NAC Rookie of the year, Fralick led the conference in hits (39), runs batted in (32) and total bases (52) as well as batting average (.565) leading the Lynx to a 17-3 record in conference play.

Eagles Earn #1 Seed in NAC Tournament
After completing conference play, Husson, Lesley and Thomas all finished at 17-3. Based on predetermined tiebreaking procedures, Husson was awarded the top seed in the NAC Softball Championship. The Eagles (17-3 NAC, 26-10) will host eight seeded Maine Maritime (5-15 NAC, 8-17) when quarterfinal action begins Tuesday, April 29.
